Development of the modular and flexible APS THE GRID buffet system

THE GRID is a modular buffet system that we have developed for APS with the aim of deliberately blurring the traditional lines between buffet and table. We began by asking how functional requirements, efficient processes and high-quality table aesthetics could be combined in an integrated system. The result is a clearly structured design concept that streamlines processes, enables innovative presentation, and treats buffet and table settings as a coherent whole.

THE GRID redefines buffet and table culture. With this modular system, we have reinterpreted the established principle of the APS VALO collection in a new context, linking presentation and service within a consistent design approach. Buffet and table flow seamlessly into one another – offering functional precision and a sense of balance.

To underpin the design, we developed a clear system logic: all elements follow coordinated diameters and a harmonious design vocabulary. This creates the maximum freedom to mix and match, while maintaining a serene visual aesthetic. Porcelain, glass and wood form a balanced material palette that conveys lightness, quality and timeless appeal.

On the table, THE GRID is defined by restraint and balance. Each element integrates effortlessly into an array of table settings, from breakfast to fine dining. At the buffet, the system lends structure and clarity: variable heights, levels and modular arrangements facilitate a clear presentation and preserve a sense of openness. Paired with the VALO system and integrated cooling options, the result is a flexible, professional and cohesive look.

THE GRID is not a rigid system – it can be freely configured. Modular in design, universally applicable and with consistent detailing, it creates a sense of continuity between buffet and table.
