Greta and the good life
The new porcelain decor for SIEGER by FÜRSTENBERG
Delicate lines, elegantly composed – for the premium dinner service MY CHINA!, Michael Sieger has designed a new decor that exudes calm and serenity. The new SIEGER by FÜRSTENBERG collection was unveiled to the world at the trade fair Maison & Objet in September 2017. Apart from product design, the sieger design team was also responsible for strategic concept development in marketing and communication.
The new decor’s subtle details give it an aura of contemporary elegance. It is only on closer inspection that you notice the fine geometric structures, which appear to condense into solid areas from a distance. The precise patterns are formed by fine circles, squares and their interaction. For Greta, a name derived from the word “pearl”, a narrow platinum rim is applied by hand and then polished. The precious metal has a matt finish that minimises reflections and complements the elegantly reserved light grey lines.
Greta is the sixth decor for the handcrafted dinner service MY CHINA!, with a design suited to a variety of target groups. On the one hand, the fine yet highly functional porcelain is intended to enrich people’s lives at home. As Michael Sieger explains, “Everything revolves around the dining table – the heart of the home. It’s where families are brought closer together.” It’s no coincidence that the designer’s oldest daughter is also called Greta. On the other hand, thanks to the carefully thought-out design and particularly high quality, the dinner service meets the highest standards of modern gastronomy. “Our porcelain encourages people to linger. In family homes or exclusive hotels – wherever people want to enjoy the good life,” according to Christian Sieger. All plates, bowls, cups and tea accessories have perfectly coordinated diameters and dimensions, allowing them to be flexibly combined. The minimalist decor provides a discreet backdrop for food presentation. In addition, MY CHINA! Greta can also be combined harmoniously with other collections, especially Treasure Platinum. Today, they are not only found worldwide in private homes, apartments and on yachts, but also in various five-star hotels and high-quality restaurants.
Apart from product design, the sieger design team was also responsible for strategic concept development in marketing, the architecture of the trade fair stand, communication including print and online, and public relations. To accompany the decor’s premiere, a new complete catalogue, THE GOOD LIFE, has been developed. The catalogue offers an expansive, structured overview of all SIEGER by FÜRSTENBERG collections. It also contains background information about the design and manufacturing process.
