    Creating values through water

Focus on the human being, in the footsteps of nature – editorial on occasion of the international trend fair ISH 2017

We are becoming increasingly conscious of the singular importance of water as a pure element. Each day in the world around us, we recognise its power, energy, and impact. And that applies all the more for a place in which the person is the focus: the bathroom. Whether a cold jet or a warming shower, an intense stream or a gentle rain, the special receptors in our skin enable us to sense and appreciate this natural element.

The minimalist designs of the washstands being presented for the first time at ISH 2017, as well as the striking dish basin, radiate a feeling of clarity and lightness. The Scopio models fit harmoniously into the desired milieu or – for instance as floor-standing solitaire units – set stylistic accents in the room.

sieger design has developed and implemented a comprehensive brand strategy for Ritzenhoff’s multifaceted relaunch

In 2017, one of the world’s most successful design projects is being given a contemporary update. 25 years after the Ritzenhoff brand was launched, sieger design has coordinated and developed a long-term relaunch. Just like in 1992, the agency team has created not just new product designs but also a comprehensive brand strategy including design management and extensive communication measures – corporate design, image brochures, press materials, trade fair stand architecture and POS concept.

A renaissance for one of the most successful design projects – to mark the relaunch of the Ritzenhoff brand, 29 top creatives contributed designs for the N25Y collection

It’s an unparalleled story of success – in the early 1990s, the brand strategy developed for Ritzenhoff revolutionised an entire industry. The glass products, with decors created by elite international designers, were not only coveted by consumers but also roused the passions of the creatives themselves: the joint project became as competitive as a sports tournament. To mark the brand’s relaunch and 25th anniversary, sieger design once again brought together a network of top designers and coordinated the project as a whole.

More and more people are moving into cities, resulting in increasing scarcity of living space and rising apartment prices. But at the same time, there’s increasing demand for enhanced quality of life. The “Small Size Premium Spa” fulfils all the standards of a luxury spa in a compact area of approx. 6sqm. The concept, which won the 2015 German Iconic Award, can be reinterpreted in a variety of designs and styles. In the “Broadening Horizons” interpretation, an intelligent spatial architecture creates emotional ambiences.

New additions to the high-quality LAMY scala range of pens

To this day, the fountain pen remains the classic instrument whenever we have to draft or sign an important document. And, together with a ballpoint pen, it was the first such instrument in the range to be reinterpreted and restyled by sieger design – as a result, the Lamy brand has included a contemporary yet timeless series since 2012. In 2013, a mechanical pencil and a rollerball pen as well as a new colour variety – LAMY scala Ti with titanium finish – were added.

No man steps in the same river twice

Everything flows – editorial on occasion of the trend fair ISH 2013

The world is in a state of flux. Processes are therefore not just a given, but in fact even necessary on a number of different levels. Time equals change on scales both large and small, and each and every generation is faced with a new set of challenges. Our tasks always include anticipating the mood of the times. We refine what we have, develop new things and remain on the pulse of progress – which presupposes constant change and development.

With Happy D.2, sieger design is refining an established bestseller from Duravit

In many ways, the journey to Happy D.2 was about staying true to the range’s roots and developing new strengths. It has been completely revamped for 2013, and 15 years since the launch of its predecessor, represents a further milestone in the collaboration between Duravit and sieger design. Combining familiar characteristics with a modern ornate look, the comprehensive bathroom series is asserting its own personality.

Sometimes, even the most subtle changes can make a big difference. The same applies to Duravit’s updated X-Large range, which was originally conceived by sieger design and unveiled in 2000. Subtle yet significant refinements make the range appear more minimalist despite its abundant spaciousness. It takes a step back, comes across as quieter and altogether fresher, and enters 2013 without losing any of its splendour as a diverse furniture range.

    Providing individual experiences

One bathroom, a wave of applications – the new vision to design individual spaces in which daily activities are carried out

It’s functionality rather than design that’s taking centre stage this time – that’s the focus born of the innovative modular “Personal needs, individual spaces” concept and what led sieger design and Dornbracht to outline a zonal architecture for the bathroom in a bid to support individual processes. In 2013, this gave rise to the division of new, specially functional outlets separated from their operating elements, irrespective of whether they are mechanically or electronically controlled.

Innovative technologies prove their mettle by facilitating processes, enabling convenience or creating unique experiences. Together with Dornbracht, Meiré und Meiré and Square One, sieger design developed the electronic Smart Water system (2013), that integrates the possibilities for digitisation of applications in the bathroom and beyond. The interface design aspect, in particular, required great care in order to produce a consistent and truly self-explanatory operating concept.

Retreating into the countryside has been proven to result in both physical and psychological benefits. Created by sieger design and presented by Dornbracht in 2013, Sensory Sky from Dornbracht draws on nature as a place of relaxation and revitalisation – and brings the natural world into the home. This enables three pre-programmed shower choreographies with different types of rain, fog, light and fragrance.

A˘system, the holistic range of all-in-one systems, is exceptionally versatile thanks to a multitude of components that can be mixed and matched: basins and washstands made from glazed steel as well as furnishings to match. All modules have been designed with a view to interlocking, which means units with a coherent overall look.

Leipzig Gewandhaus-Quartett invited to Harkotten Castle for the 2011 Euregio music festival

For the past 16 years, the Euregio concert series, which transcends genre, has been held in a bid to nurture top young musicians. May 2011 saw the event supported by sieger design and other exclusive partners from Germany’s Münsterland region for the second time. The baroque hall in Harkotten Castle had already been recommended as an atmospheric setting a year earlier, when sieger design supported the event for the first time.

Classic proportions and archetypal forms: Happy D. by Duravit

In 1998 sieger design worked on its own initiative to develop the idea for a new ceramic range, which became both a modern archetype and a bestseller. Happy D. drew its inspiration not from any specific predecessor, but rather from individual stylistic elements that have been shaping our vision of sophisticated bathrooms for decades. Since 2004, the range has seen additions in the form of matching furnishings, such as washstands, and accessories.

In 2009, the Metaphor range was born of the idea to give water a central place in the bathroom. The washstand, an amalgamation of basin and furnishing, acts as the room’s focal point. It can be either free-standing or positioned against a wall and serves as the starting point for the room’s design and architecture. sieger design developed a washstand with a simple, monolithic look and feel in order to create a place to cleanse body and soul.

    An ode to water

How the Elemental Spa concept defines bathroom architecture and allocates water within the room

Water is regarded as the source of all life. Which is why myths, philosophical treatises and even religious ceremonies have linked it with people across cultures. Elemental Spa builds on these rites and beliefs. To this day, the concept is a strategically significant one, as the fittings have been given a whole new meaning – especially in relation to the room. It came into being in 2007 as a result of the close collaboration between Dornbracht and sieger design.

Shanghai is perhaps China’s ultimate shopper’s paradise. Enormous department stores and small boutiques bring together wares from East and West – and nowhere is this more evident than on Nanjing Road, a shopping wonderland spanning several kilometres. In 2007, sieger design was tasked with giving this popular, historically charged avenue a revamp. Chinese tradition and European culture were merged in one progressive concept.
